About the Course
Dengue is the fastest-spreading mosquito-borne viral disease in the world. Case numbers have risen roughly ten-fold in a decade, and there is still no proven antiviral treatment. Prevention is therefore the cornerstone of control, and vaccination has become a key addition to vector control.
This course takes you from the epidemiology of dengue, through the clinical-trial and real-world evidence for the licensed vaccines, to practical patient conversations. You will work through a case-based approach to eligibility screening, learn how to explain efficacy, effectiveness and safety in plain language, and learn how to counter misinformation and overcome barriers to implementation.
Format: 5 sections, each with sub-topics, tables, key facts and a 10-question multiple-choice self-assessment.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe the global burden of dengue and the drivers behind its spread.
- Compare the three licensed dengue vaccines (CYD-TDV, TAK-003, TV-003).
- Interpret trial and real-world effectiveness data, including serotype-specific results.
- Screen patients for eligibility, contraindications and precautions.
- Communicate benefits and risks in language patients understand, and address hesitancy.
